Kick Off #3: Beyond the Breach (Cybersecurity Panel)
MISA hosted Beyond the Breach, an event that combined a cybersecurity panel with an interactive data breach activity. Industry professionals shared insights about their careers, the role of AI in cybersecurity, and how professionals respond to unexpected challenges. Members then worked in teams to respond to a simulated breach at MISA Incorporated. Each team took on a different role, including executive leadership, IT security, legal and compliance, and PR and communications. As the activity unfolded, teams had to communicate with one another, share information, and collaborate to decide how the company should respond. Members enjoyed working with people from other teams and seeing how each department’s decisions affected the overall response. The event concluded with team presentations and feedback from the panelists, giving members the opportunity to apply what they learned in a realistic and collaborative setting.
Kick Off #2 MISA Squid Games
MISA hosted a Squid Games–themed social where members competed in games inspired by the show, including Red Light, Green Light, Dalgona, Tug of War, and Glass Stepping Stones. Members were split into teams and worked together while competing in a friendly and entertaining setting. The activities gave everyone a chance to get involved, meet people from different teams, and make new connections at the beginning of the semester. With plenty of competition, teamwork, and laughter throughout the night, the event was a fun way for members to get to know one another and start building the MISA community.
Kick Off #1: Career Storytelling Workshop
MISA hosted an interactive professional development workshop focused on resumes, networking, and interviewing. Members learned how to create a strong professional narrative by highlighting their accomplishments, tailoring their resumes, and showing recruiters the value they can bring to a company. The workshop also covered networking strategies, including how to approach conversations with recruiters, ask thoughtful questions, and build genuine connections.
A major part of the session focused on elevator pitches. Members learned how to clearly explain their role, strengths, experience, and what they are currently looking for. They then wrote and practiced their own elevator pitches before sharing them with their groups and receiving feedback. The workshop also introduced interview frameworks such as the STAR method and the Google XYZ formula, which can help members communicate their experiences more effectively. Through the different activities and group exercises, attendees gained practical advice and more confidence when preparing for career fairs, networking opportunities, and future interviews.
